Updating the 2000 Medication Guidance
Staff identified that medication errors were one of their biggest concerns, both because of the risk to people using our services, but also to staff.
Existing guidance was out of date and did not address changes in national policy or local practice. The guidance also failed to properly support best practice and did not offer either staff or managers appropriate guidance about how to deal with errors.
I lead a multi-agency project team, and with support from the PCT and independent providers new guidance was developed to support all Adult Social Care providers in Coventry. This was ratified by the PCT's Director of Nursing and the Trade Unions in July 2012.
