Developing Direct Payments Practice

As a Social Worker I created the first Direct Payments in the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham and Lambeth. When I moved to management I used my experience and commitment to self directed support to make it easier for other workers to do the same.

As lead for Direct Payments in Coventry from 2005 to 2008 I lead a significant increase in the uptake of Direct Payments, and in particular
  • Worked with older people's teams to meet local targets for Direct Payment numbers
  • Developed a supported Direct Payment model via a local organisation to widen access to Direct Payments for people with cognitive impairments
  • Agreed a Care Trust model with the PCT so that people with Direct Payments did not loose control when moving to fully funded Continuing Health Care
  • Developed a model for joint funded Direct Payments with the PCT
  • Supported the Children with Disabilities Team to introduce Direct Payments, both for parents and young people
